Everyone seeking freedom from sin's death grip needs to know that Jesus is the only answer. Jesus proclaimed His calling and mission in the Gospel of Luke and it is still true today for those that will only believe.
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel (Good News) to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. KJV
Walking in liberty and freedom is no accident, it starts with a quality desision to be free, and a grace empowerment to recieve it, then walk it out. The kind of power I am talking about only flows from the presents of the Lord Jesus. Every person on this planet has been subjected to the curse of sin and death. All men inhierited this curse at birth due to the original sin of Adam and Eve that has been handed down through all generations. We also have to deal daily with other consiquences due to the curse that came on the earth through the fall.
It was only the grace of God the Father, sending God the Son, to die a grievious death for all mankind to reverse the curse that came upon all mankind. So when we embrace Jesus Christ we also embrace the same Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead. It is also the same Holy Spirit that wants to loose us from the curse of sin and death that brings men into bondage and captivity.
Sin, death and the curse are bad enough but there is also a wicked spirit called "satan" or the "devil" trying continually to ball and chain us to his wicked ways. He puts pressure on us daily to turn away from God and His ways. He constantly tempts us to sin, and exploits the weakness of our flesh, then condems us for our actions. The devil knows that when we submit to sin it gives him the legal right needed to futher his agenda to steal, kill and destroy our lives.
Thanks to Jesus there is Good News! Jesus took our place of disgrace so we could take His place of grace at the right hand of God. Jesus took our sin and unrightousness on Himself so we could wear the robe of right-ness. Jesus, the Lamb of God, took sin upon himself and became a sacrifice for us so that we could have the legal right to be free from the slavery of sin and its penalty which is death. Jesus was not murdered, He gave His life for you and Me so we could be free from all the penalty of death, which included our entire being - spirit, soul and body.
Jesus not only offers freedom from the dominion of sin with its ball and chain but he has also equiped us with His authority and weapons. His weapons are more powerful than anything in the enemies arsonal and they give us the victory over all the curse of sin, death and the world.
Now there are several steps to walking in the fullness of wholeness and the liberty that was purchased for us, yet it is freely offered to us. The first step to freedom in any area of life is to accept the new life of forgiveness offered to us when we recieve Jesus as our Lord and Savior. If you have never done this then I hope you will trust me when I say it is the best decision you will ever make. So I encourage you to do it now, don't live in slavery to sin one more minute of your life. Honor Jesus by asking him to come into your heart and give you a fresh new start.
21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
When we embrace Jesus Christ with all our heart and recieve Him as Lord we pass from death to life Jesus called it "born again." Our first birth brought usinto slavery to sin our second birth brought us into the liberty of the Son of God. This new birth only happens in our spirit only. However, our soul, which is comprised of our mind, will, emotions, still needs to be renewed and brought into agreement with God and His ways or we could still live shackeled to our past. God's ways and God's will are revealed to us through the holy scriptures. God wants to help us be free but it is only through His Word that He will do it. God cannot and will never do anything that contradics His written Word. In John the scripture declares:
31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
The truth is the only thing that can set the captive free. And it is liberating to know that God gave us a manual to show us the way, a manual of truth and life that contains the very heart and mind of God.
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Renewing one's mind to God's truth is not automatic. Learning to think the way God thinks takes a commitment and time but it is the ONLY WAY to walk in freedom and stay free. It takes a working knowledge and understanding of God's gracious Word to maintain freedom. The devil is working 24/7 to enslave your life therefore you are going to have to be committed to walking in God's ways 24/7 or you will not be able to deal with the enemy. It takes someone who knows and understands God's love and grace to experience true victory over the gaints that mock them. As an example David, which means "beloved of God," understood this principal and he was the only one at the time in the nation of Isreal that was empowered to kill the giant Goliath. The rest of the army was trying to deal with Goliath on a natural level and that only lead to fear as a result, but David's trust in God's love and grace won the battle.
1 Samuel 17:45-47
45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
46 This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
47 And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give you into our hands.
The devil is our enemy and he is like Goliath mocking us and desiring to see us cowering, bound and captive to his will. But it is only knowing how much God loves us and that He is on our side, favoring our righteous cause that help us in every confrontation with temptation and the enemy. But we still need another kind of empowerment to take on the enemy. In and of ourselves we are no match for the enemy but with God on our side the enemy does not have a chance.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; KJV
Before we will see freedom we need to learn how to fight like Jesus did and like Jesus we need God's weapons and his empowerment. Jesus was empowered by the Holy Spirit when He was baptized in the Jordon River by John the Baptist. If Jesus who was born of a virgin, free from the curse of sin, needed to be empoured by the Holy Spirit, how much more you and me. Jesus knew this and advised his disiples concerning the matter. Carefully take a look at the scriptures below and I will expond on them.
19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.
21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
The scriptures found here in John 20 are accually the account of the day of Jesus resurrection and the meeting He had with the disiples that day at evening. In this account it reveals to us that Jesus breathed life into the disiples the same life He breathed into Adam's nostrols in the garden of Eden. This is the account of the disiples born again experience. They recieved the eternal life of God that day when Jesus breathed on them and said "recieve the Holy Spirit." After this day Jesus walked with the disiples another fourty days and just before He left earth look at what He told them.
3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
Fourty days after Jesus breathed on the disiples and they recieved the Holy Spirit, Jesus told them there was more to come and to wait to be Baptized with the Holy Spirit, which acually happened ten days latter on the day of Pentecost.
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
When Jesus breathed on the disiples they were born again and recieved salvation by the Holy Spirit. In contrast on the day of Pentecost Jesus sent the Holy Spirit from heaven as a rushing mighty wind, baptizing them with an empowement for service. The Holy Spirit came upon the disiples anointing them to preach the gospel to the poor; to send them to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, and to set at liberty them that are bruised.
10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
The Holy Spirit empowered these disiples to do the same works that Jesus had been doing. This same baptism is available to every christian today and it is this empowerment also called the anointing that we need for spiritual combat. If you have not recieved this baptism in the Holy Spirit you need to know it is available to you today simply for the asking. The Holy Spirit is wonderful gift so you have no need to fear recieving Him.
13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
There are only two requirements to recieve the baptism of the Holy Spirit: one you must first be born again, because only a born again believer in Jesus Christ has the capacity to recieve this ministry of the Holy Spirit. Second you must recieve with an expecting and believing heart. You can recieve by simply asking the heavenly Father for the Holy Spirit and then Jesus as your great High Priest will baptize you with the Holy Spirit. If you have any other questions or would like someone to pray with you feel free to call our office.
43 To him (Jesus) give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.
Once you have recieved salvation (step one) and once you have been empowered (step two), the next step is learn about the Law of Faith. What is the Law of Faith? The Law of Faith is mentioned by Paul the Apostle in Romans chapter three. Examples of the Law of Faith can been seen in the entire bible from cover to cover. Basicly the Law of Faith is "calling things that are not as though they were," but there is more.
17(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
Step three is understanding how to use your faith to get free and stay free. If you do not understand how to use your faith the enemy will use your faith agaist you and keep you in bondage. At the same time, keep in mind that faith is not simply a principal or a formula it is faith in the Word of God, it is faith in a person, Jesus Christ being the living Word of God. Here is one example of Jesus using His faith.
20 And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.
21 And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away.
22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
In this scripture we see Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem and He saw a fig tree that looked like it had fruit but when He found that it was barren He cursed it. The next day when Jesus and the disiples passed by the tree again it was dried up from the roots. Jesus used this as an oportunity to teach the disiples how to use faith. Faith is a spiritual fouce that is released out of our spirit through words. Faith works on a heart-mouth relationship releasing the power resident in our heart by our words.
45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
20 A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
There are no two ways about it our mouth is part of the solution to any freedom from bondage. If used wrong our mouth can keep us held in bondage the rest of our life. Our tongue is very powerful, which is a direct result on being made and created in the image and likeness of God. In fact we could not even receive salvation without confessing Jesus as Lord.
8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
God's word is the soure of His power and He always gets exactly what He says. But on the other hand the words we say and believe form our lives. Our lives are a compillaion and an expression of our words and they have been insurmental in creating the life that we live whether for good or bad. You words are a direct expression of your faith and your heart. They revel what you belive and nobody belives your words more than you do. We may not be able to control what other say but we must control what we say with God's help. Let me put it to you another way. If you don't want it don't say it! You can even take it to another level of power when you get God envoved by putting His Word in you heart and then agreeing and decreeing what He said. This leads to seeing Gods Word and Promises manifest in your life.
Say you are in bondage to ciggeretts, alcohol or some other substance. you will here many people decree that they can never quit and as long as they continue to say that the never will. But even if you do not think you can quit learn to decree that you are free. Call the thing that is not as though it were. Many think it is somehow healing to call themselves an alcoholic but as long as you do it will be a battle for your words reinforce your problem. But on the other hand if you were to continually say that I am free from alcohol and have no more desire for it then your desire will follow your heart, which is being steered by your words. Say it enough and you will believe it! No matter the problem or how bad it looks use your mouth to change the landscape of your life.
Keep in mind that when we speak or pray we should always do it with our whole heart. And avoid vasillating and wavering between mind sets because this will always lead to doubt in the heart and doubt is synonymous with being double minded. Instead set you mind on God's word and ask Him for wisdom if you are not sure what you should say, always remember you can pray.
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
If you ever fail to recieve from God, check this area first. You can't go in two directions at the same time so decide ahead of time which way you want to go, lock your mouth down, and stay on track until you arrive at your destination. So learn to speak in faith with your whole heart and a sigle mind. Sometimes when you first start doing this your mind or your feelings may want to streer but you need to learn to push them aside and learn to make confessions based on God's word and that are consistant with the life of freedom you desire. And always remember, faith believes it recieves even before it sees. When you pray learn to recieve and when you pray know it has been given that day and it is now on the way as you continue to stay in agreement and say thank you.
31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
33 They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant (slave) of sin.
35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
The truth recieved and believed will always make you free. So learn to agree and decree, then it is simply a matter of time until it shall be but always remember that "the faith of God" or you could say "the God kind of faith" only flows out of the will of God. We have to learn how to be a conduit of God's power and Word. We cannot use the principals of faith seperate from God. Faith is reliant on a believing heart that allows God's word to flow in and a mouth that is will to release the power in the word resident in the person of Jesus.
Ask God for help today and expect God's favor when you pray.
